Top Five LFC 2012 moments

2012, wasn’t the best year we have had on the field, however without a doubt off the field it was the best ever. Below is a run-down of the top 5 events that marked the year. Don’t forget to bet on superbowl or the FA Cup Final.

1) Hillsborough Independent Panel Report.

After 23 years of lies and injustice, the truth finally came out on the 12th of September 2012. Although most of the findings of the report wasn’t new for most Reds (as it reinforced what we have known all along), it finally forced those who lied to admit the truth. Apologises flowed in however the damage done by the likes of Kelvin Mackenzie, Irvine Patnick and The S*n will never go away. The Panel however has finally opened a door towards justice which hopefully will come in 2013.

2) Inquests Quashed, new ones ordered.

Following the Hillsborough Independent Panel Report, the ball was put in motion to get justice for the 96 and their families. The first step came a few days ago when the High Court Quashed the Hillsborough Inquests and opened the door for new ones to be held.

3) Christmas No 1.
The new inquests and legal fees has put new financial strains on the families, MP Steve Rotheram’s idea was to put together a group of singers together and record a charity single for the families.
“He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Brother” was played at Goodison Park as a tribute to the 96 just days after the Hillsborough Independent Panel report was released. Taking the inspiration of Reds & Blues coming together the sleeve cover featured the picture from Goodison of the two mascots. The song did make it to No 1 and not only did it earn some good charity money but it sent a very strong message that the authorities must allow the course of justice to proceed.

4) Liverpool win the Carling Cup.
After a six year trophy drought, Steve Gerrard was able to hold a trophy aloft over the skies of Wembley Stadium. The trip to the new Wembley was the first time the Kop faithful travelled there however we will end up making the trip three times in 2012.

5) Liverpool beat Everton to reach the FA Cup Final.

Andy Carroll sent the Reds to the FA Cup Final, an 87 minute header prevented extra time and sent the Red side of Mersey back to Wembley. The Reds faced Chelsea in the final, unfortunately Andy Carroll’s 2nd goal was not given and Liverpool lost 2-1. A Carling Cup victory and an FA Cup Final wasn’t enough however to secure Kenny Dalglish’s job. The Gaffer was fired a few days later and then in August Carroll was loaned out to West Ham.
