Doni almost died according to Italian media

Italian Media are reporting this morning that Doni is actually retiring from football. According to the Gazzetta Dello Sport He had a cardiac arrest during a test and almost died.

Doni

Doni

Doni was released by Liverpool yesterday and the club said that he had joined the Brazilian outfit Botafogo. There were some doubts in Brazil over this as Botafogo didn’t release any statements of him joining. The rumour was that he was joining another club called Botafogo which plays in the 4th division and not the Botafogo from Rio.

If this is all true then it is very sad and at the same time kudos to the doctors and Liverpool for doing these tests on all the players on a regular basis to ensure that there isn’t another tragedy.

To Doni I want to wish him the best.

Thanks for this post. As I support Botafogo in Rio, I was worried about Doni coming. The current goalkeeper Jefferson is World Class and in the national team. He must be going to Botafogo in Ribeirao Preto in the State of Sao Paulo as hey are about to start the regional championship.

That’s not a rumour it’s a well-documented fact. Botafogo SP are the club he played for in his youth, and his home town club. He’s basically semi-retired and living close to family now.

Oh, and they’re not in the 4th division, they’re not actually in the national system at all. They’re in the state system through which a team can qualify for the national system. They’re basically in the Brazilian version of the conference.
