A (Match) Day In The Life Of A Liverpool Fan Abroad

So, when I was about 7 years old, I stumbled across probably, the best thing in my 14 years on Earth so far. Liverpool Football Club.
My brother was a United fan, so I had a rough idea about what the EPL and Liverpool were. But, once I got hooked on to Liverpool, I haven’t looked back since.

Anyway, let’s get on to the main topic here:
There was a lot of excitement coming into the 2013-14 season for Liverpool. I won’t get too much into detail here, but you probably have a fair idea of what I’m on about here. So this is what a *massive* Liverpool supporter here in India does on a Premier League matchday.
Saturday, 24 August. You know what that means. Premier League weekend. I still can’t believe it’s back. Also, two days away from school. And yes, Premier League is higher on my list than the actual weekend. A morning of regular stuff commences. A bunch of football articles are read as the big build-up continues. Gareth Bale? Oh please, Real, sign him already. I want to get on with my life. Some minor Fantasy Football tinkering to be done as well.

My cousin comes over for lunch. Huge Arsenal fan, this guy. A lot of banter takes place. A lot of FIFA too. He convinces his parents to leave quickly as he doesn’t want to miss the game. I understand completely.

The Arsenal game starts and I have it on in the background. So, they win and then the other games kick-off. Really boring, this gameweek. So far, that is.

About an hour left for the Liverpool game to start. I go to the Liverpool homepage. I’m refreshing this like crazy. Finally, the lineups are displayed. Same team, Cissokho on the bench. Good. Don’t change what isn’t broken. (I’m a master of footballing cliches now)
This is it. It’s starting now. I’m high fiving my mom simply because there’s no one else. She’s confused. I tell her she won’t understand my feelings.
The match starts. We start off playing good attacking football. Benteke scares the hell out of me. This man is a beast. I feel a goal is coming soon. And it does come. What a goal by Daniel Sturridge. 1-0.

It’s a bit disappointing that it finishes 1-0. But I can’t complain, can I? A win’s a win. (Told you about the cliches)
Few scary moments here and there, but all in all, a good tactical display. Winning ugly is much better than losing prettily. (Last one, I swear).

Two games, two wins. A great start to the season. United and Chelsea drew too. Man United are up next. The first real challenge awaits.
So, this was just another matchday in my life. Some people will know what I’m on about here, some will think I’m crazy.
