Maxi Pereira on Liverpool’s transfer radar…

The Daily Mirror have picked up on reports in Portugal, which are claiming that Liverpool could make a move for Uruguay defender Maxi Pereira in January.

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, who are quoted by the Mirror, discussions over a new deal with current club Benfica have stalled and show no sign of being resolved.

It is claimed Pereira wants to pen an extension but his agent is pushing for better terms and neither party show any sign of budging, which has opened the door for Liverpool.

The 30-year-old was linked with a move to Anfield in the summer and the Reds could revive their interest, should they be able to land him on the cheap.

An experienced right-back, who has played 95 times for his country, and over 300 times for the club he joined in 2007,  Pereira could offer a short-term solution to the Reds current issues in the position.

Glen Johnson has drawn much criticism for his performances, while he has also struggled with injuries. Last month, the Guardian claimed that the England international could leave the club after contract negotiations stalled.

Youngster Jon Flanagan is yet to play this season, again due to injury, while 20-year-old Spaniard Javi Manquillo still lacks the experience to be considered the automatic first-choice.
