Extension on the cards for combative Englishman…

Liverpool have offered vice-captain Jordan Henderson a new five year contract worth £80k-per week, reports the Daily Mail.

The English midfielder is currently on £65k-per-week, but his contract expires in eighteen month’s time, and the club is naturally keen to tie him down for the foreseeable future.

After a difficult start to life on Merseyside, Henderson eventually grew into his Anfield role, and was awarded the vice-captaincy during the summer before the start of this campaign as a result.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t quite been able to find the same kind of form this season, but to be fair, neither have many of his teammates.

Henderson’s thrust, dynamism and energy in midfield is vital to our style of play, and some of best performances in 2013/14 were characterised by his relentless pressing and work-rate.

We are also in contract negotiations with Glen Johnson, Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling at the moment, all of whom could sign before Christmas.
