Adam Lallana believes that for Liverpool, a top four finish would be ‘remarkable achievement’…

Adam Lallana has admitted that a top four finish would be remarkable achievement for Liverpool this season, following their difficult start to the campaign.

The Reds have fallen to 11th place in the Premier League ahead of this weekend’s fixtures, 15 points adrift of leaders Chelsea. Liverpool’s struggles are in stark contrast to last season, when the Reds finished two points behind winners Manchester City.

Brendan Rodgers and his players secured the huge consolation of Champions League football after a five-year absence, but those same stars have struggled to cope with the overload of fixtures this year.

Lallana, a £25m signing from Southampton during the summer, insists that Liverpool can get their season back on track, starting this weekend against Crystal Palace, and feels that securing a second season among Europe’s elite must be a priority.

“We still think we can finish in the top four and I think that would be a remarkable achievement considering we’ve been in the Champions League,” said the attacking midfielder, who was quoted by the Daily Mail.

“But we don’t want to look that far and we want to get back to winning ways. With a game against Crystal Palace it’s a great chance for us to get three points and start a run,” he said.

“(Silverware) should be the target for us. We want to pick up a trophy and the manager said that he felt that since he’s come in the team has improved but still without winning a trophy. That’s definitely the target.”
