Liverpool want Norwich City’s England Under-21s winger Nathan Redmond…

Speculative news stories have this weekend claimed that we are readying a £10m move for Norwich City’s England Under-21 international winger Nathan Redmond.

The Daily Star believes that the Reds hope the youngster might ‘rescue’ our season, after an admittedly difficult start to the current campaign. The 20-year-old, who is in a similar mould to Raheem Sterling or Jordan Ibe, is reportedly being watched by our scouts.

Redmond has played alongside Anfield ace Sterling for the England Under-21 side and is regarded as one of the most exciting young players in the country.

The Canaries rejected a £5m offer from Southampton for Redmond in the last transfer window, and it seems that the Saints are ready for another transfer battle with Liverpool in the new year.

Realistically, while Redmond is undoubtedly one for the future, our summer transfer business has shown that putting faith in highly rated young players needs to be balanced with the influence of experienced and proven individuals.

Norwich are determined to keep the former Birmingham City player, who can operate on either flank or as a second striker off a target man. And you have to think that Rodgers would do better to look elsewhere, rather than fight tooth and nail for a player that will only be on the fringes of the first-team at the stage in his development.

This month, the Reds have been linked with the likes of Saido Berahino and Jackson Martinez, who have both scored goals at the top level, and could help bolster our misfiring front-line.
