Farcical ‘£47m’ Liverpool transfer rumour published by Metro

Reds to spend £47m on three players, claims same paper who quote Rodgers rejecting transfer rumours…

Strap yourselves in guys. Silly season is clearly upon us.

Yesterday, the Metro published a story in which they claimed Liverpool will spend £47m in January on Chelsea stopper Petr Cech, Norwich winger Nathan Redmond and Porto striker Jackson Martinez.

Yet, on the same day, they were happy to quote Brendan Rodgers, who claimed that he’s not looking to sign any players when the Winter window opens.

“It [buying new players] is not something I am looking at,” the Liverpool boss said.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has already claimed that no offers have been made for Cech yet, while Redmond is a Championship footballer – and nowhere near the required level to boost us right now. (Certainly not at the £10m transfer fee quoted, anyway.)

Martinez would be a welcome addition because of Daniel Sturridge’s persistent injury problems, but if we’re going to spend as much as £30m on a striker, we’ll surely wait until the summer.

In short, fans shouldn’t take this story too seriously…
