MARCA slam ‘toothless’ Luis Suarez, as striker goes 7 La Liga matches without scoring

Superstar still hasn’t bagged in Spanish top flight…

While we shouldn’t get our hopes up of a romantic return just yet, the Spanish press are starting to target Luis Suarez, who still hasn’t bagged for Barcelona in the league…

MARCA (the pro-Real Madrid Spanish daily, admittedly), published an article following Suarez’s seventh consecutive La Liga blank at the weekend, in which they ironically labelled the Uruguayan ‘toothless’ in the headline.

Since his £65m move to Barcelona in the summer, Suarez has scored twice in the Champions League, but not once in the Spanish top flight, with many suggesting that he’s still struggling to find his feet following his four month ban.

Suarez has assisted five goals though, which demonstrates that at the moment, he’s playing a supply role to Lionel Messi and Neymar.

With us, he was of course the ‘main man’, as shown but his individual accolades in 2013/14, and sadly our own struggles in 2014/15…

If he continues to struggle and eventually gets taken out of the side, is there any chance he’d return to Merseyside…?

Here’s what MARCA had to say:

“Having won the Golden Shoe for his exploits in front of goal last term, Suarez seems to have been unsettled by the ban that saw him start this season later than his new teammates.

“The stats are even more surprising when compared to historical data: over the last 50 years, only three other forwards signed by Barcelona have had the same difficulty as Suárez in breaking their league duck. Those three are Christophe Dugarry, Luis García and Maxi López, who all spent indifferent spells with the ‘Blaugranas’.

“This stat places Suárez alongside some of the worst ‘Culés’ performers in recent times, and increases the doubts and speculation about whether or not his signing was good value for money for the Catalan club.”
