Origi is coming to Reds early…
Reports in France and the English media are circulating today, claiming that we’ve decided to pay the €6m fee needed to bring Divock Origi to Anfield early…
The talented Belgian forward was signed for a £10m fee during the summer from Lille, but was sent back to the French on loan for the season as part of the deal.
However, due to the problems we’ve had up top this term, Brendan Rodgers wants the rapid forward to end his temporary stint with Lille and aid our push for the European spots.
Origi shone during the World Cup, but despite starting well this season, his form has seriously tailed off, and French fans actually booed his contribution recently.
While we should be pleased to have acquired another forward option, too much pressure should not be put on Origi’s shoulders. He actually hasn’t scored in 14 matches, in which he has occasionally looked disinterested and short of concentration.
At least Liverpool are moving early to try and boost the squad in any way they can, however.
Top football journalist Gabriel Marcotti had this to say on the event:
Just because Origi started 2 games at CF at the World Cup doesn’t mean he’s the instant answer to LFC’s goal-scoring woes

Origi is 19. He’s very gifted. Hasn’t been much of a goalscorer yet. Nine in 3861 league mins with Lille. One every 429 mins.
