Brad Jones injury may force Brendan Rodgers to sign emergency keeper

Mignolet will be the only fit senior keeper with Jones out indefinitely.

The Reds may be considering signing a goalkeeper on an emergency loan after Brad Jones limped off against Burnley leaving Simon Mignolet as our only fit senior shot stopper.

A thigh problem saw Jones substituted against Burnley during the Reds 1-0 at Turf Moor after 15 minutes and allowed the return of under-fire Simon Mignolet to the field after being dropped against Manchester United.

Mignolet looked decent enough but the injury leaves the Belgian as the only senior keeper available with youth teamer Danny Ward, most likely, having to now be on the bench against Swansea.

Premier League rules dictate that in a situation such as this Rodgers would have the ability to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan and the Daily Star claim that is was the Boss will attempt to do.

However, with the transfer window opening in 5 days, you wonder if it wouldn’t make more sense to just wait until then to sign a more long-term target – though admittedly this would take more time and could be to the team’s detriment in the short term during the busy, festive fixture list.

Rodgers said of the goalkeeping issues: “We will just look at that [a loan deal]. If he [Jones] is missing out, we have young Danny Ward and he will come on to the bench.”
