We have been linked with the striker recently.

Rumours that Liverpool are interested in signing Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain have been quashed by his agent and brother Nicolas.

Higuain’s representative says that the Argentina international is happy in Naples currently and any reports that he wants to leave are untrue.

“First of all, I have not spoken to any club because they have not contacted me and secondly, it would be disrespectful to Napoli,” Nicolas was quoted by the Daily Mail.

“We’re not thinking about leaving Napoli.

“Gonzalo is calm, he has a contract with Napoli and he’s not planning to leave because he’s happy.”

Higuain joined Napoli from Real Madrid in the summer of 2013 in a £34.5m deal and has since scored 38 goals in 73 matches in all competitions, helping the team win the Coppa Italia last season.

However, ever since arriving in Serie A the 27-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away, but these latest comments from his agent couldn’t be more clear.

It’s true that we probably need another striker – with new signings Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert failing to impress, Fabio Borini below par and Daniel Sturridge injured since August – but the solution is not Higuain.
