FSG want to rival United’s Old Trafford signage

Liverpool’s owners are looking to create an ‘iconic exterior sign’ to the new Main Stand to mark Anfield as the home to ‘The Liverpool Football Club’.

The Independent say Fenway Sports Group are wanting to rival Manchester United’s famous brightly lit sign at the front of Old Trafford.

The new Main Stand will increase the capacity of Anfield to around 54,000 and, says the report, match-day revenue will be up to £25m and it seems the owners wants to welcome the stadium renovations with an iconic addition.

Perhaps more interestingly, the official name of the club is actually The Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Limited, but as we know it’s more commonly referred to as Liverpool Football Club.

By adding the article ‘The’ to the beginning of this proposed sign on the Main Stand, it maybe signals some intent from the American owners to change the way the club is addressed – though the Indy says there is no suggestion of a wider club re-brand on the cards.

It’s thought that by adding large red lettering to the exterior of Anfield, Liverpool’s stadium would become a local landmark visible from distances around the city.

Do you think this is a clever move from FSG to further promote the club and improve match day experience? Or are they starting to tinker with things they really shouldn’t?
