Goalkeeper’s Agent Stokes Flames For Prospective Anfield Move

Reports again link us with the Australian shot stopper.

We’re bound to be in the hunt for a new keeper this summer with the ever volatile Simon Mignolet doing his best to keep cardiologists in work and Brad Jones surely preparing for an exit at the end of the season.

And of course with that known it’s led to us being linked with an incredible number of keepers in the media but one name that continues to crop up is the Australian Mat Ryan.

Brendan Rodgers has reportedly identified the 22 year old as a possible rival for Mignolet for the number one jersey after being voted the best keeper in Belgium, for club Brugge, over the past two seasons.

Former Middlesbrough striker Mikkel Beck represents Ryan and says he isn’t surprised by the Boss’ interest but thinks his client isn’t likely to move until the summer as he is currently playing with Australia in the Asian Cup.

“I have read the reports that Liverpool are watching Mat, but I am unaware of concrete interest from them,” Beck said, reports the Mirror.

“Of course it does not surprise me that such big clubs are interested in Mat because he is such an outstanding talent.

“Playing in the Premier League would be of interest to Mat as it is one of the best leagues in the world and knowing how ambitious Mat is it is the kind of league he would like to play in.

“A move is unlikely this month as Mat is away at the Asian Cup and is fully focused on doing well for Australia.

“We will sit down in the summer and talk about things and if there is something concrete and something special that comes up we will consider it.”

Sounds like he could be available, though it’s unclear at this time just how much he would cost, and given he just signed a new contract you’d doubt it’d be cheap.

But given our struggles in between the sticks this season you’d think no fee is too high for Rodgers. Do you think Ryan is the solution?
