Liverpool fans have waited a very long time for a new stadium, with two sets of American owners promising an upgrade on Anfield.

However, despite Tom Hicks and George Gillett claiming in February 2007 that there would be shovels in the ground within 60 days when they took over the club, no improvements were seen.

That may have finally changed with John W Henry of Fenway Sports Limited now in charge.

FSG took a very long time to make up their minds about whether an entirely new ground or a redevelopment of Anfield was needed, before electing for the latter, and finally there is proof that work is underway.

Henry posted the below image to Twitter, with his wife Linda Pizzuti adding a caption to the image that it would be the main stand at the new Anfield.

Arsenal and Manchester United make considerably more matchday revenue than us at present, with larger capacity grounds and more expensive tickets giving them a clear advantage.

In a few years, perhaps we’ll be on an even playing field. For now, it’s just a relief to see something actually happening.
