The 34-year-old will end his near two-decade association with the Reds in order to join Arena later this year, and is eager for a face-to-face meeting with his new boss.

Arena will attend Liverpool’s Europa League game against Besiktas on Thursday ahead of a meeting with Gerrard, where he will discuss his plans for next season.

Gerrard recently spoke of Arena’s  ‘aggressive pursuit’ of his signature earlier this season, and the Reds skipper will no doubt be eager to find out what’s planned for him during his 18-month contract.

Club commitments have so far prevented Gerrard from meeting with Galaxy’s representatives, but the former USA-coach will fly from Galaxy’s pre-season training camp in Ireland to Merseyside to iron out the details.

Speaking about the upcoming meeting, an excited Arena was quoted by the Daily Mirror as saying: “I’m looking forward to shaking Steven’s hand and welcoming him personally.

“We will have a chance to talk about our club and expectations. Without a doubt he is going to be a great addition.”
