Would either player make a good signing for Liverpool later this year…

Two of the most talked about Liverpool transfer targets – Miralem Pjanic and Danny Ings – have been distanced from moves to Anfield in today’s papers, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Mirror reference both the Mail and the Express, who have led with separate stories on the two players, who have both been heavily linked with Brendan Rodgers’ side since the turn of the year.

Bosnian midfielder Pjanic – tipped as a potential replacement for departing captain Steven Gerrard – has himself rubbished speculation linking him with a move to the Premier League, claiming he is fully focused on current employers AS Roma – who are attempting to chase down Serie A leaders Juventus.

Much was made of Rodgers’ trip to Rome last week, when it was suggested that the Kop boss could be casting his eye over a number of potential transfer targets, but the reality is that he didn’t even attend a game while there.

“It’s not time to talk about a transfer, but there has been no contact [with Liverpool],” Pjanic said.

“I am only focused on Roma.”

Burnley striker Ings was linked with a move to Liverpool during the closing stages of the January transfer window, but regardless of whether or not there was any truth in those rumours, he eventually decided to stay put.

Clarets manager Sean Dyche has since commented that the player, like Pjanic, remains fully focused on leading his current team to a successful second-half of the campaign, which in this case would end in Premier League survival.

“I’ve got no reason to doubt his thoughts about Burnley Football Club and what we’re doing,” Dyche said.
