Ibe picked up the injury away to Besitkas on Thursday, and scans have confirmed that the problem is serious.

The 19-year-old has been wonderful since his return from his loan spell at Derby County, but this untimely injury will derail his progress into our starting XI.

Ibe had virtually nailed down his spot in the side at right wing-back, having performed exceptionally there against Everton, Spurs and Besiktas – but now Lazar Markovic is the man most expected to play in the position, as he did against Manchester City yesterday.

Javier Manquillo is the other option, but with Brendan Rodgers clearly favouring strong offensive dribblers in the wing-back role, the spot is Markovic’s to lose.

Let’s hope Ibe returns quickly, and can continue his astonishing development.
