Finally Hodgson sees sense…

Raheem Sterling will be the third Liverpool star to withdraw from the England squad after being given permission to leave the camp following Friday’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania.

Sterling will be released back to Liverpool by the national side ahead of the friendly with Italy next Tuesday in order to try and fully recover from a toe injury he is said to have been nursing for some time with pain killing injections, reports the Guardian.

Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana have already withdrawn from international duty through respective injuries and we’re sure, like us, you’re breathing a big sigh of relief at that.

We can only hope now that even in his limited time with Sterling, Hodgson doesn’t succeed in his attempts at ruining another Liverpool player’s season.

Whilst no international football would be the ideal, we can at least appreciate the fact that we have just one star away with the Three Lions compared to our rivals.

Particularly looking ahead to the crucial game with Arsenal in 10 days time, with Lallana and Sturridge expected back for our trip to the Emirates and with the assumption the Sterling will still be fit following his outing against Lithuania, we look to be at least in good stead in terms of squad personnel.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have the likes of Theo Walcott, Danny Welbeck and Kieran Gibbs away and likely involved in the game with Italy next Tuesday which gives them just four days to return to their club, recover and prepare for our visit.

But ultimately, given the timing it’s just questionable why international football just has to be scheduled for this period with the end of the domestic season so close. Don’t they know it’s always going to be club over country?
