The 24-year-old is the heavy favourite to take over the Liverpool captaincy when Steven Gerrard leaves the club for LA Galaxy this summer, but his contract tying him down to us expires at the end of next season.

As a result, there has been a mass of speculation regarding the futures of both Henderson, and fellow contract rebel Raheem Sterling (Daily Mail) – whose current deal expires 12 months after that of our vice-captain.

Henderson has become an integral part of Brendan Rodgers’ side this season, and is looked upon as the ‘unofficial leader of the midfield’, according to reports in the Telegraph.

He’s already netted back-to-back goal of the season contenders this year, having scored the opening goals in the wins against both Manchester City and Burnley as the Reds chase a top four finish.

Now, to the delight of his teammates, manager and supporters, it appears as if he’s ready to stay. In quotes taken by the Telegraph, he said: “For me playing football is all I’ve ever wanted to do and contracts and stuff can be sorted out by clubs and agents.

“That’s why we’ve got agents, to sort stuff like this out, along with the club, and hopefully this can get done soon. All I want to do is concentrate on my football and not let this get in the way.

“I love playing football for Liverpool and I want to be there for many years and in terms of my contract I think everybody else will make a big deal of it but for me it’s just letting my agent and the club deal with it and whenever it gets sorted, it gets sorted. All I want to do is my best for club and country.”
