Nice touch, Luis…

Luis Suarez made an emotional return to Anfield on Sunday during the Liverpool All-Star Charity Match, and got a deserved rousing reception for his troubles.

The striker was felled in the second-half which earned Steven Gerrard’s XI a penalty, which his former captain converted – as happened on countless occasions during the South American’s three-and-a-half year Merseyside spell.

Suarez also played alongside Fernando Torres – a partnership which Reds supporters sadly never got to see, as the Spanish forward left almost immediately upon Suarez’s arrival.

“It was great for me,” the Uruguayan megastar told Liverpoolfc.tv.

“Four years ago when I arrived here for Liverpool, I crossed my fingers to play with Fernando and he left three days after I signed.

“Today was a great day for all the players, but for me and Fernando it was a great chance to play together.”

“Steven asked me [about taking the penalty] because he’s a great person,” said Suarez. “He knows it’s important when a player comes back after a few months to score a goal, but for me it is not important because the day is for him.”

Suarez was also asked about a potential return to Liverpool one day, and although his response was pretty coy – it still gave us Liverpool fans goosebumps!

“You never know [what will happen] in football, but if in the future I play in England again, I play with the Liverpool shirt on and not another shirt.”

During his Liverpool career, Suarez scored 82 goals, winning the Premier League Player of the Year award in 2014, and earning a monstrous £75m move to Barcelona last summer as a result.

Despite a slow start, Suarez has now notched 14 goals for the Spanish giants – establishing his reputation as one of the very best footballers in the world.
