The Brazilian, who has been sidelined since the Merseyside derby at the start of February, was an unused substitute against Manchester United in our last Premier League fixture, and played the full 90 minutes during the Anfield Charity match on Sunday.

According to our official website, the 28-year-old has been working hard at Melwood during the international break, to ensure that he is as fit as possible ahead of a potential return to first-team action.

Jordan Henderson and Joe Allen have become the established midfield pair for Rodgers in recent weeks, but Lucas has given the Northern Irishman food for thought, as his teammates return from a busy weekend.

He said of his return: “I feel great. Leading up to the Manchester United game I had a full week of training as well, so it’s been two weeks of full training. I was available for the Manchester United game, but probably wasn’t able to play the whole game. Now I feel 100 per cent.

“Now it’s just a question of getting some minutes and training sessions, so that’s what I need and what I’m having. Leading into the Arsenal game that’s going to be good because I will have had three full weeks of training and I’m looking forward to it.”

Liverpool currently sit fifth in the Premier League, five points adrift of fourth place Manchester United – who currently occupy the final Champions League spot – meaning anything other than a win this weekend could be disastrous for our hopes of European qualification.
