Philippe Coutinho’s goal 20 minutes from time was enough to see off Championship side Blackburn Rovers, who battled hard across both quarter-final games but were unable to find a way past our Belgian stopper.

Mignolet, who has undoubtedly been among the best keepers in the country since the turn of the year, has now kept 11 clean sheets in 2015 – with his latest setting up a semi-final meeting with Aston Villa at Wembley.

The achievement was made all the more impressive by the enforced absences of first-choice defensive pair – Martin Skrtel and Emre Can – as well as the blow of losing Mamadou Sakho to injury mid-game.

Like Mignolet, who made two wonderful saves from Tom Cairney and Ben Marshall, the likes of Glen Johnson and Dejan Lovren stepped up their performances in order to ensure success.

Mignolet, who was quoted by our official website, said: “Our objective was to get to the semi-final. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, we knew it was going to be a tough game.

“Blackburn made it difficult for us both at home and at Ewood Park. But everybody did their jobs and luckily we managed to score the goal which puts us in the semi-final.

“We gave something back to the fans, who have got something to look forward to now as well with a trip to Wembley.

“They stand behind us at every single away game, they turn up in numbers and it’s always nice to play in front of that crowd.

“They pushed us forward and they have something to look forward to now with a big game at Wembley. Hopefully we can get to the final as well.”
