Dear Javier,

I still remember clearly when the word came out that Liverpool were signing you on loan, it was in February 2007 right before the Champions league clash against Barcelona.

You had arrived at West Ham the previous Summer together with your friend Carlos Tevez, while the press were all focused on Tevez you were left languishing in the West Ham reserves. Rafa Benitez rescued you, bringing you to Liverpool and soon after you become a permanent fixture in the Liverpool lineup, your International exposure quickly grew.

On the 29th of February 2008 you put pen to paper and signed a four year contract with Liverpool, a contract that bound you with Liverpool F.C., a contract that paid you a salary fit for a world class professional football player. You were a regular starter at Liverpool and were playing in the top E.P.L. and Champions League games, you had become an International star.

The Kop started singing your name while many kids saved their pocket money and bought Liverpool shirts with your name on the back. The Monster Masch was in full effect and we were happy to support you all the way. You saw red against Manchester United and you saw red against Everton but we supported even louder.

Diego Maradona  even made you captain of Argentina and some like me went as far as supporting Argentina just because of you. We stood by you during the difficult qualifiers and then were gutted for you when Argentina was trashed by Germany in the World Cup quarter finals.

The last summer transfer window was full of ups and downs and many of us Reds had conceded that we would be losing you as it was widely reported that you wanted to leave. Of course we were disappointed to lose you, but after your brilliant performance against Arsenal we all stood up and cheered you on. Javier you would have left Liverpool a hero but for whatever reason you missed the Manchester City game, a game that we lost 3-0.  I strongly believe that your behaviour upset your team-mates and the preparations for that game, quite honesty we probably lost that game because of your antics.

And then to rub salt in our wounds you go out and claim that moving to Barcelona has been a dream move and then you go further by attacking the club for what you say are lies said to the press.

Maybe Rafa or Roy upset you, maybe Tom Hicks and George Gillett did too but what have the Liverpool Supporters and your team-mates done to deserve this?

All we did was support you 100% and this is how you pay-us back?

Gracias por nada.

Patience, is key.

By Jaidev Singh · Comments (1)

with Hodgson and his men enduring a slow start to the season, a lot has been has by a lot of people. Questions have been asked, but the answers don’t seem to be there. I don’t seem to understand the deal, though.
it’s just been a month since Roy took over. we’ve made it to the group stages after tough matches against Trabzonspor. we drew our first league game at home against Arsenal, a match which we deserved to win after Joe got wrongly red carded in the first half and the damn sun which gifted Arsenal a late, late equalizer. City was a rather forgettable game, but that’s just ONE match there. I’ve come across a lot of fans blaming Roy for setting up a 4-4-2 formation, but wasn’t that what everyone wanted to see for a long time? Don’t tell me you weren’t. I can see a lot of teams going to Eastlands and struggling to get points. well fair enough, they’ve spent over a £100 million on their squad and it was always going to be hard.

Another thing that I’ve been reading a lot recently is regarding the signing of Konchesky and “how far we’ve fallen”. That is plain simple bollocks. there aren’t many left backs around and Konchesky, who is by no means a world class left back, certainly has experience on his side and will give us the much needed width and attacking we need from the left. Agger did brilliant, but wasn’t the best going forward. not his natural position, I don’t blame him, he did well. The thing that’s bothering me is how everyone seems to be blaming Roy for signing Konchesky and letting two young stars leave in the opposite direction. Yes, I was a gutted to see Dalla Valle leave but I guess time was running out and we needed a left back really bad.

as for Konchesky coming to Anfield, I think it could be a good signing. Roy worked with him for about 2 and a half years so he knows what he’s about. we could not have signed a better left back because WE HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO MONEY! as simple as that. Roy did a good job in convincing Joe Cole to come to Anfield, he has signed a dynamic player in Meireles and a decent enough Konchesky to fill in at left back.

time will tell if these signings were good or not, but I urge all Liverpool fans to have some patience please. let everyone say whatever they want to say, but we need to give our new manager and his new style of play and tactics some time to gel. it’s just been a month for crying out loud. voice your opinions regarding the players, the manager, everything. but please, patience is key to our season. give Roy and his boys time. Please.

I read this piece of news yesterday. About the new formula 1 circuit being build in Bulgaria,  and which is being sponsored by an anonymous Sheik. Once I read it, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Why there is some loaded Sheik spending money on something not really needed? I mean … do not get me wrong, please. I like Bulgaria. Bulgaria is cool. Formula 1 taking place in Bulgaria would be cool as well. But … there’s no real need for another circuit as there are so many unused! France, Austria, Germany, Spain, England, Portugal, Mexico, Argentina … or Holland. And dozens of more if you might have a closer look. Why build a new one? Only because Bernie the Great is smelling money and big business? Yeah. That’s the problem.

Frankly I would have had a different option for spending this loads of money, and I am shocked the Sheik didn’t come up with it first!  Why doesn’t the he give those chips to us? Or even just a tiny little part of it? We need this money! First of all, to get rid of those nasty Americans. Or why doesn’t he just buy us? Or if he doesn’t fell like buying … or giving us this money … he might as well sponsor us a new Stadium. Or renovate Anfield. How  about that? It’s definitely cheaper than building a racing track from the very beginning. Am I right? I am.

Furthermore, he could do some business with the Sulaiman Al-Fahim, the owner of Manchester City, during his Liverpool visits. London isn’t far away from Liverpool – especially for a Sheik, and his private jets and stuff – so he could drop buy at Mister Al-Fahim’s for a cup of Tea (or whatever sheiks do drink), and discuss some small or big business dealings. How about that? So many options there, ay?

Dear Mister Sheik,

Should you read this (and I do know all sheiks speak perfect English): PLEASE GIVE US (LIVERPOOL FC) THE LOADS OF MONEY YOU EVIDENTLY OWN, AND WANT TO SPEND FOR THE CIRCUIT IN BULGARIA. PLEASO DO NOT DO THIS! WE DO NEED THIS MONEY MORE! IT IS URGENT! THANK YOU! :-9

Redest Cities

By Antoine Zammit · Comments (24)

Have you ever wondered which cities outside Liverpool have the most L.F.C. supporters in them?
Here is a breakdown, we used the stats of the E.O.T.K site and our Facebook page over the last year.

Of course it is nothing scientific but interesting.

1) London
2) Singapore
3) Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
4) Dublin
5) Manchester
6) Birmingham
7) Sydney, Australia
8) Jakarta Indonesia
9) Melbourne, Australia
10) Bangkok, Thailand

Not far behind Belfast, Oslo & New York City.

Coming Up Short

By Justin Heron · Comments (4)

The transfer window is now closed, many would say a blessing in itself.

Moving into the break for International games and with Liverpool not taking to the field again until Septmber 12th when they travel to face Birmingham City, I found myself stepping back from football to a degree, tired. Tired of transfer related rumours, tired of failure by those that lead our club at a business level and tired of Tom Hicks “Big Summer”.

Just over 24hrs later and a few words from a film and thoughts return once more to Liverpool Football Club. Having successfully and most unlike me, avoided a number of conversations about our infamous custodians on Twitter, I opted for some sofa time and watching “A Knights Tale” to let my world slow down a little. If you have seen the film, a more than reasonable one at that, starring the late and talented Heath Ledger, as he goes in search of his dream to become a knight and “change his stars”. During the course of his journey to success, the plot of many a film, the words “you have been weighed, you have been measured and you have been found wanting” are thrust upon him.

For me, Heath Ledger or William as his character is, may as well have been sat upon his horse wearing a Liverpool shirt contemplating these words, is this not exactly the place that a Liverpool fan finds themselves today? pondering a similar position? Standards Corrupted more fitting than Standard Chartered as they say. Perhaps Fernando Torres had opted to pop the same DVD on at home as me as he sat absorbing that no new support / strike partner would be joining him just yet, as his thoughts were loud and clear when he spoke to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope.

”It’s fundamental new owners arrive who can make us a competitive side,” the star forward commented amongst his summary.

It is fair to say that Liverpool’s transfer window exploits are by no means of Titanic disaster proportions as some make them out to be, we have after all seen the arrival of Joe Cole, Raul Meireles, Milan Jovanovic who have the ability to influence games. Complimented with experienced campaigners Paul Konchesky and Christian Poulsen plus the youth and back up of Jonjo Shelvey, Danny Wilson & Brad Jones all coming in the door, it is not a case of dire straits squad side at L4. But two sides a coin most certainy has and if you look at the underside and what lies below it is all to clear that a side desperate to extract striking powess to support Torres, ended up adding nothing but losing two more. It is also more than unusual for a side lacking depth and requiring somewhat of an extensive overhaul to walk away from a transfer window with over £7m in profit and not feeling the wallet alot lighter. Unless of course that was always the plan?

There is no need to go into the depths of the many failures of Hicks & Gillett, they are heading towards being as well known nowadays as the words of our famous song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” which the fan base continues to turn to for faith, hope and unity. Tom Hicks may well have now added his “Big Summer” quote to his efforts to dominate the entire Top 10 lies in football but did we honestly expect any less? It is not so much the fact that we haven’t seen the arrival of an Arda Turan, Maxi Gomez or Ola Toivonen in the dying hours of the transfer window that sets alarm bells ringing all over again, more the actions and time seemingly spent on trying to secure the likes of Carlton Cole, who simply just isnt good enough, while the likes of Rafael Van Der Vaart are snapped up by Spurs for a mere £8m with minutes to spare. The club at times is simply just looking in completely the wrong direction when it matters.

To a degree, the same may be said of Roy Hodgson. Support the man and his efforts I most certainly do but reserving judgement on him is also my right. It is very early days in the season, fitness still being found and players still getting to be known by a new manager but so far apart from a 2nd half against Arsenal, the Liverpool report card is saying average. Now average is an improvement on a lot of games last season, theres no denying that and the grades should start to rise now that the manager can concentrate on matters purely football but going 442 against Manchester City is a rookie error in my book, the result was too predictable as was how it was achieved, different it could have been.

Whether Dalglish, should he have been given the chance, would have played it any differently on the pitch or his purchases we will never know, nor any of the other candidates that were interviewed but probably never had a cat in hells chance of getting the job (unless Hodgson declined it). Despite these mentioned moments of disappointment, optimism must continue to prevail, for now they are just a couple of bad days in football there are many more better ones to come. They can be pushed to the back of the mind somewhere, not completely forgotten as they represent caution and lessons that should be learned but they shouldn’t be held to the forefront either, gaining limelight that they do not deserve.

We are now just under 5 weeks away from the RBS deadline of October 6th that hangs over Hicks & Gillett and possibly the future of Liverpool football club being decided by a bank if a suitable buyer does not present an accepted offer between now and then. Kenny Huang may well be going off now in search of an alterante Premier League club to suit his consortium and Eastern expansions but Martin Broughton and our board still remain very tight lipped on their own thoughts, many argue a little too quiet. While the club remains held to ransom by owners that have no interest in it, or have anytime for the fans that support it both financially and passionately, RBS may yet face a decision that they really dont want forced upon them. This is where the fans thought process needs to be, along with supporting the squad that wear the shirt week in and week out with our unrelenting backing regardless of a result we do not appreciate. All roads point back to our American owners and that road needs to be closed permanently.

For Messrs Hicks & Gillett they will always continue to come up short and that is just not acceptable at Anfield as a permanent state of affairs. “You have been weighed, you have been measured and you have been found wanting” they most certainly have. Times up!
