Introducing myself at a ‘tumultuous’ time

Posted by

I have just joined Empire of the Kop, and what a time to join. What we thought was the season turning around at the start of January has led to 2 losses back to back and seems to most as the season crumbling around us again. But I tell you follow Kopites, it is far from that.

I”m Martin Turner, a 21 year old man from St Helens, England, a mere 20 minute drive from Liverpool. Living near Liverpool there are a lot of fellow reds around me, but unfortunatley, there are also a lot of Man United and Everton fans around as well. It comes to something when Everton fans are laughing at us and not fearing playing us. It’s all a state of mind, all in our heads.

People say that Rafa Benitez is not the man for us, that he’s lost it, he’s lost the touch that won us the Champions League in 2005. But you forget, this is the same Rafa that won us that trophy in 2005, the same Rafa that won us the FA Cup in 2006, the same Rafa that brought us one of the best strikers in world football in Fernando Torres and also the same Rafa that got us into our best domestic position in years last season. EVERY team is entitled to have a bad season, and yeah this is ours. I have full confidence that next year it will be different, we just have to keep faith and stay behind the team!

We are Liverpool FC and never ever forget it!

  1. Mate I only wish every Liverpool fan spoke like you: the words of a person truly 100% behind our team, our manager and our football club.

True fans stick behind them through thick and thin, and I put this to those ‘fans’ calling for Rafa to be axed: who among you won’t be celebrating if we lift the Europa League come May? I appreciate that it is a pretty big ‘if’, but what the players need right now are the fans to rally round them, not to be having a go at them left, right and centre.

More of the same please, Martin!

  2. Sorry but,

This is the same arrogant Rafa that

    1. Still plays zonal
    2. Had rotation
    3. Plays Lucas
    4. Always had excuses saying our position it the league was improving and it was but surely you can’t say we’ve played better year on year.

    FA cup – Gerrard
CL 2005 – Gerrard (Probably throw a German in on that too). It was great to win but never a strong performance.
Last season when we had the scum in the bag, everyone around me saw them getting out except Mr Rafa. Remember, at the start of that season we got some pretty good ‘get out of Jail cards’.

All said from GH to now it has been hard to watch LFC most games provide a heart attack or two along the way.

For the last two seasons I have believed that with RB in charge we will win nothing, I can’t see any reason to change because you rarely see change in him. (It took an injury to the half fit aussie and 3-0 down for him to change in 2005)

After Wigan and Lille you can say all you like but you can see that none of the players are confident. On paper we have one of the most exciting teams but they have all been played out of position and have lost anything they had.
Injuries, well he bought one for 20M (With the money he doesn’t get, would you give him money??) and now won’t play him.

The list goes on and on and on

We as supporters should be able to critical of our managers we did to Souness but the new breed a supporters seem to think that to be a true supporter you can not be critical of RB, well you can.

  3. i only read half off your thing cos i was happy to hear your from st helens, st helens rules, tho im sick of them penquins in town :@

  4. andy: Chelsea employ zonal, man u do more rotation and where the fuck was gerrard in the last 2 matches. 2 nd last year, year in year improvement. no 1 ranked team in europe last year… one bad season = your talking out of your short sighted arse.

You say that all players have been played out of position. Yes, Masch, Carra had to play right back. Why? Because of an injury to our first choice right back. The solution? Some more money from the Americans.

The zonal marking. We used Zonal marking since Rafa arrived. We had one of the best defences in the PL since then. Chelsea use it, and have a much taller team, and a higher amount of goals conceded from set pieces.

Then we move to Aquilani, the ’20mil injury’. Aquilani had been out for 9 months before returning to playing. A player bought in the Summer (who is fully fit), would take almost have a season to adjust. There is no point in judging the lad now.

Your point about the rotation was ridiculous. Rotation is supposed to happen. ManUre rotate more, and have done for the past few seasons.

And what if I told you Lucas was the 3rd most successful passer in the PL this season, with something like 70% tackle success. To be honest, Lucas has been one of our consistent performers this season.

About Rafa’s substitutions, if he makes 3 substitutions say at half time, what if a player gets injured or sent off in the second half? How would he shuffle his pack?

And finally, we come to Gerrard. Captain Fantastic. I respect the man, I really do. But lately his attitude has been terrible. Aquilani had a better pass completion and tackle success against Wigan as a substitute than Gerrard had all game. I hope Gerrard stays, but at the moment, he is not performing. There is no urge, or effort in his play. I wouldn’t mind seeing him benched for a game. Show him he’s not untouchable.

All your points sound like they were taken straight from Sky.
