Major Betting Sites Suspend All Betting On Ribery Signing

By Michael Owen         (Other posts by Michael Owen)

Major betting sites SkyBet and William Hill have suspended all betting on Liverpool signing French international Frank Ribery.

Now for those of you who don’t have a clue about betting when a bookmaker suspends betting on anything it means it is near enough certain it’s going to happen. So, in this case two of the biggest betting firms in the United Kingdom have suspended betting as they believe Liverpool have rapped up the deal for Frank Ribery.

How will this be funded if it does (which it most likely will) go ahead? Who knows? I sure don’t. All I can hope is this doesn’t lead to the exit of our central midfield partners Javier Mascherano and Xabi Alonso.

Can I now also add PaddyPower have suspended betting and more are by the minute.

  3. Adam says:

Would be an interesting signing, but I just don’t see it happening.

How long after this closing of the betting does an announcement usually follow?

  4. Duckbox says:

Bloody hell. How could Liverpool match the asking price for that man?

  5. Will says:

I believe it’ll be initiated by the bookmakers to make some money back from the Owen debacle. Don’t get your hopes up people!!

  6. Rafa23 says:

What have you lot been drinking? Betting was “closed” on Benitez leaving Liverpool before the Champions League match in Madrid….I wish it were true but I can’t see it (I hope i’m proved wrong)

  7. Michael Owen says:

Yes but betting wasn’t 66/1 on Benitez leaving before the Real match was it?

If we were odds on and it happened I would’t have wrote anything about it. However, we weren’t even in the running this time yesterday and now we’re favourites and the bookies won’t even take odds.

  8. Fred says:

Ribery to Madrid from Bayern for an arseload. Alonso plus cash in exchange for Ribery.

  9. Mike says:

    Is this true? Huh? Serious?

    PROOF?!

looks like this story has gone away with rafa laughing at it – always thought it was very unlikely. 66/1 to 8/13 only means that 5 or 6 people have laid 200 quid on it. that would be enough to scare the bookmakers into dropping the odds as they would stand to lose a whopping £13400 per measly £200 bet. they will have been panicking after taking a hiding on michael owen, so frightened not to drop the odds again. these odds would not have changed so rapidly if not for last weeks events at manure. non starter me thinks
