Cohen Fired From Fox

By Michael Owen         (Other posts by Michael Owen)

The Fox Soccer Channel have today announced that Steve Cohen will not be a part of this seasons Fox Football Fone-in with most believing this being due to pressure put on the channel from Liverpool fan groups after Cohen’s comments about the Hillsborough disaster.

A boycott of all things Steve Cohen has proven effective in recent months with many major sponsors dropping out of deals with Cohen’s radio show World Soccer Daily which has hit the California based Chelsea fan hard financially.

Many feel this is a major step in putting Steve Cohen back in line and getting him out of the public spotlight and comes just weeks after his club of choice Chelsea F.C distanced themselves from the former Tottenham and Arsenal supporter.

No one at World Soccer Daily was available to comment on the show’s founder being shunned by the Fox Soccer Channel.

Anthony Ananins- founder of the ‘Putting Steven Cohen straight’ Facebook group- said “Today’s news is dedicated to our 96 friends.”

Cohen has been on a slippery slope ever since making the comments about Hillsborough during his radio show on the 20th anniversary of the disaster in April. Financial losses even forced Cohen to plead with his listeners to donate money in order to keep the show up and running. However, it is believed the funds raised in no way compensated for the cash lost through falls in advertising revenue due to the boycott of many sponsors.

It will be interesting to see Cohen’s response to this blow to his position in the US football media. He’s often been very vocal about those who have turned their back on him, will he be the same with the US soccer giants Fox?

Well done – this is the 2nd piece of good news for the 96 today.

  2. irfaanfr says:

    NICE ;))

  3. Alan Hankinson says:

The best thing about this is that he has no one to blame but himself for the out right lies he said.

  4. maj says:

What is sad is i didnt see either of our owners stand up and call Cohen out for his remarks. They just sat on their backside and let him get away with things. If it wasnt for the lfc fans nothing would have happened.

  5. James says:

Well… he wasn’t really fired was he? they just decided not to have him host this years show, if Alan Hansen wasn’t on MOTD this year, we wouldn’t say he’d been fired would we?

  6. John says:

James – I can assure you he was fired. Cohen was contracted to do this season (they sort that out in June on a season-by-season basis), but the absurdity of his behaviour in the last 6 weeks made his position untenable at Fox Cable Networks. In particular, Cohen’s remarks about advertisers who had left his radio show, and his inability to produce the emails he claims were anti-Semetic led to his termination.

  7. Tony New Mexico says:

The last time i actually spoke with Cohen,i told him that i would “ruin him financially”

He laughed and said “Bring it on”

    We did.

  8. Oh Tony, you are such an evil person. The poor Cohen does not have money to feed his kids now, that is terrible.
    As Borat says NOT!

Great Job mate, you guys are doing a hell of a job.

Time to silence the scumbag once and for all :-)

  9. Robert Woytowich says:

Guys getting Cohne off the air makes sense as no one wants to hear irresponsible journalism (if you can call Cohen a journalist) but I, for one, will miss the numerous guests who offered great insight into the game. Now if someone can point me to a one-stop shopping podcast that covers the Spanish, Italian and the South American game at least, please tell me.

I’d sooner have seen WSD survive with new hosts so how about a Liverpool and Everton supporter geting together and starting up a WSD version 2.0 that is one where educated opinions can be voiced.
