Liverpool v Newcastle Late Match Report

Posted by

This is a bit late, but I thought you might like to see my match report:

Liverpool put even more pressure on United by winning 3-0 against Newcastle on Sunday. Newcastle started nicely after Arbeloa had to clear off the line. Liverpool’s first goal came in the 22nd minute, when Dirk Kuyt, wildly sent the ball accross goal for Benayoun to hit the back of the net. Just 6 minutes later, Steven Gerrard’s corner  met Kuyt’s diving header who made it 2-0 to The Reds. Poor defending from Newcastle. The other highlight of the first half was Xabi Alonso with a stunning long range strike – only to see the ball crash off the cross-bar.

The second half was alot quieter. Alonso once again hit Newcastle’s bar with another great effort. Late in the game, Fabio Aurelio crossed a free kick, which Lucas headed into the net. Before Liverpool’s third, Joey Barton was sent off for a stupid sliding-tackle on Xabi Alonso. In stoppage time, it was Steven Gerrard’s turn to smack Newcastle’s bar from outside the area. Newcastle are in trouble at the bottom, as Liverpool close the gap to three points at the top. The game finished 3-0 to Liverpool, which so easily could have been 6-0.

Liverpool’s Man Of The Match for me was Xabi Alonso.

Newcastle’s Man Of The Match for me was Steve Harper’s crossbar.
