Supporters Direct Release Statement On Fan Ownership Of Liverpool F.C

Posted by

Independent football suppoters’ trust Supporters Direct has released a statement revealing plans are being made to bring the main campaign groups for new ownership of Liverpool Football Club together in order to bring about fan ownership of the Club.

Supporters Direct will be working alongside Spirit of Shankly- The Liverpool Supporters Union and the fan ownership group ShareLiverpool in order to come up with a business plan to turn Liverpool Football Club into a fan owned club with a membership system similar to that of Barcelona in Spain. Bringing these groups together aims to unify the support of Liverpool Football Club rather than running a number of seperate campaigns.

This statement comes after rumours of a takeover bid backed by ex-players and spearheaded by Kop legend Kenny Dalglish. It is still unknown whether or not there will be any form of ex and current player backing as a part of this takeover bid although a number of ex-players including Sky pundit Phil Thompson have already backed the ShareLiverpool scheme.

I can personally only see this as a positive thing. The coming together of all the groups fighting for fan ownership was needed in order to make a serious bid. I will personally be willing to invest into this bid if the wheels are put into motion, I’m sure many other reds around the world will to.

  1. Hi
Question – Will fans outside of Liverpool be allowed to own shares. ie here in RSA

  2. Hi there Dion.

I think for this to be feasible supporters from outside of Liverpool will have to be a major part of it. Liverpool is a working-class city and although there will be a lot of support for the bid around Merseyside I’d highly doubt you’d be able to find all the investment needed from just those with an L postcode.
