Another step forward has been made in the battle for justice after personal guarantee’s were given to the Hillsborough families by the Home Secretary after secret talks.

Three mothers of victims of the Hillsborough disaster arrived back in Liverpool after being given assurances from the Home Secretary Alan Johnson that the files relating to Hillsborough would be completely disclosed within two months.

This comes after a battle for justice for the 96 who lost their lives which has streched out over 20 years. The mothers, who up until recently had been under a Whitehall silence agreement, said they were “Ecstatic” about the breakthrough.

“There’s been a lot of work going on behind the scene’s” said Jenni Hicks, the mother of two sisters who died on the Leppings Lane terrace in April 1989.

“Every one of the 96 families will be notified of the developments in due course.” Added the survivor of the disaster and fromer wife of the stand-in chairman of the Hillsborough Family Support Group Trevor Hicks.

It is believed the government intend to set up an independent panel known simply as ‘the Hillsborough Idependent Panel’ to oversee the release of the files and the information held within.
