The Liverpool Echo is reporting that Xabi Alonso has handed in a transfer request.

Xabi now seems to be Real Madrid bound.

  1. Just read this in the Echo, I would not have believed it anywhere else. This is depressing, but, he has given us 5 years of excellent service, and if he fancies a change, who are we to stand in his way?

  3. I’m absolutely gutted. But I expected it with all the recent talk about replacement targets.

    He won’t be as appreciated in Madrid as he is in Liverpool.

  7. It is sad news for us all alright, but we’re a lot more that just a one man team. It might give the other lads a chance to step up to the plate and make a name for themselves. I’m not up to date on who the best replacements would be, but I’m sure that Rafa will have a few lads already lined up and Im beginning to trust in Rafa’s transfer dealings a lot more. It was clear he never wanted Keane (sorry fello countryman), and I think the stand he made with him will reap benefits in the long term.

    Thanks a million Xabi, all the best at Real and be carefull in the showers with that shirt-lifter Ronaldo lurking in the back-ground.

  11. I think Alonso should see sense.

    We thumped Real Madrid 5-0 last year (agg) and now he wants to go them.

    Ronaldo, Kaka and Benzema may be good but they are not miracle workers.

  12. Real Madrid are full of mercenaries. The way Perez talks you’d think they have a devine right over every player. The truth is that Xabi should have handed in a request ages ago…not two weeks before the start of the season.
