With both Agger & Skrtel out for a couple of weeks Rafa wanted an experience player to cover the position and help Jamie Carragher (who himself had to wear a headband tonight). Sotirios is probably not the first choice of most Reds but we simply need someone experienced to fill that critical spot for the next few weeks.
I personally think this a great move by Rafa and for a reported price of around 2 million the 30 year old is a great signing. Funny enough the last time Rafa had to make a rash decision to purchase a central defender he brought in Martin Skrtel.
