Spirit of Shankly : Hicks and Gillett are not welcome in Liverpool

Posted by

I received the following from Spirit of Shankly, interesting. Looks like Hicks and Gillett will have to walk from JLA to Anfield the next time they visit.

The Spirit of Shankly Supporters’ Union met at The Olympia on Saturday to allow the Management Committee to launch its proposed direct action campaign to see the American “owners” removed from the Club.

The campaign is to send a clear and unequivocal signal to the owners that they are no longer welcome at our airport, hotels, restaurants, ground, club or city. The campaign will focus upon media profile, leafleting, billboards and banners.

We plan protests, banners and chanting at the Debrecen game this Wednesday, at West Ham next Saturday (if you are going please get in touch with Jay McKenna at directaction@spiritofshankly.com) and the away game at Leeds United (which will have a special resonance bearing in mind we are moving towards being “the next Leeds”).

In addition we are asking for anyone who can help with intelligence on their proposed arrival within the city for matches to let us know as far in advance as possible. This will lead to direct, non-violent action, to prevent them from getting from their planes to their hotels, from their hotels to restaurants or pubs, from getting close to our ground, from getting into the ground and if in the ground, to consider disruption within there too.

Interestingly, following our meeting on Saturday we have been contacted by the Club and representatives from the Committee have been invited to meet Christian Purslow on Wednesday before the Debrecen game.

The Committee will be putting the leaflet questions (and others) to the Club at that meeting. Members are asked to email secretary@spiritofshankly.com if they have any further questions about the ownership or financing (the meeting will be limited to these issues only) – if we can we will include these and we will, of course, report back afterwards to all members.

The leaflet handed out at Saturday’s match can be downloaded here

  1. Well said! Indeed, the “Yanks” must split to the other side of Ocean!
From my part, my own opinion, there is ALSO ANOTHER person we need to get rid off…

Cheers to all fellow-KOPites, from a fanatic “foreigner” KOPite (and HOPLITE), from Athens/Greece.

  2. guys we have to take it seriously and resposibly, we have had a bad start to the campaign and we don’t want another distraction for stevie G’s boys…
after all, the yanks are club owners and we all know they care least about the the spirit of our club and supporters. It just gives me a scare that a wild protest might make them take a decision that is not good for the club’s future.
hence we should be most careful yet vocal while expressing our anger and frustrations…
i hope u guys understand what i’m trying to say….
    YNWA!!!

  3. All a little bit sad really.
While fans should be getting behind the team, there is a certain group of individuals who are intent on dragging the Liverpool name through the media inflamed mud with their endless ‘campaigns’.
To be quite honest, I am sick and tired of all this nonsense. G&H are the club owners. Get used to it and get back to watching football.

There is a game on Wednesday and another at the weekend. We’re supposed to be football fans, not business analysts or professional campaigners.
It is not G&H who keep appearing in the press and forcing the endless negative headlines, it is self important people who think they have a divine right to spout as much vitriol as they can about our own club. Man Utd fans couldn’t be more successful at making us a laughing stock. Just who do they think they are telling anyone they are not welcome in the city hotels, airports etc.
You’ve had your little marches and protests. Now get on with supporting the team instead of undermining the players, manager and staff. What do you believe they think when they read about more ‘fan’ protests? It unsettles everyone from the manager down.

Ownership of the club is not our business. The players and staff need us to be behind them and the club 100% instead of dragging up endless distractions for the media and pundits to knock us with.

    Enough is enough.
