  1. When in God’s name will Rafa give up the zonal marking on set pieces? Carlton Cole rose well but with a man on the far post Liverpool would have gone into halftime up 2-1. Sometimes I see Rafa’s point – if the defenders attack the ball zonal marking should work – but in this instance Cole split Carragher and Torres for the goal. With a man on Cole and Torres on the goal line I think that particular goal is avoided.

Also, is it time to start asking the question about whether a healthy Daniel Agger pushes one of Skrtel or (gasp!) Carra out of the starting XI? I know Carra is prone to games where he looks three sheets to the wind but his sense of spacing and general body control was unusually bad. This screams a slight loss in pace to me, as he’s relying instincts that are dependent on a certain level of mobility. What might get lost in all the glory of the Torres brace and late road win is that Carra could have been responsible for three West Ham goals (that careless giveaway in the opening minutes that careened off the post, the penalty, and the Cole header). That’s Phil Neville stuff right there. Remember, West Ham hates scoring, especially against Liverpool.
