The results of the injury time study are not at all surprising and with good reason. Think about it.
The few times that opposition teams are either on level terms or have a one goal lead at Old Trafford, they waste as much time as they possibly could in order to try and hang on to the result. It’s natural therefore for injury time to be extended substantially. You will probably find that exactly the same thing happens at places like Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal where most clubs relish obtaining one point.
If referees are out to help United or are intimidated by Sir Alex, why was the final whistle not blown on 6 minutes of injury time against Man City, seconds after Owen got the winner, instead of the 7 that were given? The simple answer is that the ref had calculated 7 minutes and it would have been unfair on City to end the game a minute earlier than he did.
