The Craven Cottage Horror Show : Fulham 3 – Liverpool 1

Posted by

Well I just do not have the energy and will to write or say much after the loss today so here are my thoughts.

We all knew that Gerrard & Johnson were injured while Aquilani was sick with a “Virus”, however everyone seemed puzzled why Aurelio, Agger, Skrtel &  Riera did not even make the bench including myself.

Things started well and Yossi hit the post however the Reds switched off and Zamora punished us. Torres gave us hope again and tied up the game at 1-1.

In the 63rd minute Rafa pulled Torres and that is when everything went downhill, Fulham scored and then Rafa pulled Yossi out.

To add insult to injury Degen got a straight red and then a few minutes later Carra got a red too, the remaining 9 tried to do the best  however Fulham scored again making it 3-1.

Now the question is Why did Rafa make such decisions?
I only have the following possible answers.

1) Is there really a flu outbreak at Melwood and that is why Aurelio, Agger, Skrtel &  Riera did not make the squad?
2) Rafa is under pressure to qualify for the CL and has to make it his priority. Liverpool could miss out on a lot of money if we do not qualify for the knockout phase.  H&G want Money.
3) Torres & Yossi were tired and Rafa did not want to risk both of them getting injured.

Before we all scream for his head we need to know the facts, there are many things that happen behind the scenes that  we do not know about. Remember he also has a  financial responsibility which takes precedence over any trophy.

At the end of the day it all  comes down to MONEY!

  1. I Just can’t understand rafa subs…where r the likes of aurelio,agger,etc….i mean what the heck?!?We were very unlucky ….gutted ;(

  2. Our entire season is upside downand rafa is in my opinion 10% of the promblem 50% our stupid owners and 30% the players

  3. im not sure why anyone would stand up for rafa. it is 100 percent clear that his choices today cost us the game. borrowing some of your words antoine, he replaced dr. torres and dr. benayoun with interns. we needed to keep the momentum going and rafa took it right out from underneath us.

  4. We all heard about the swine flu at Blackburn – could we be hit by it overnight? It is clear that something was wrong with so many absent players and if those were really unavailable – who else should have played today? It probably really was the best team Rafa could field. As for Torres: we all know that he is not 100% fit so should have Rafa risked him? What if his injury got worse and would miss a month or two?

But I am worried and really start to fear for our future. I am not talking about winning the title, I am talking about how our team will look coming next season if we do not qualify for the CL. It hurts to say but this season reminds me of Houlliers season 02/03. After finishing 2nd, we totally failed in the transfer market and went on to play a horror season. And with all those injury problems we have at the moment the crisis will not be over that soon which makes things even worse. There was not enough money to buy enough new players – especially forward options. And we are paying big time for that failure now.

IMHO: Rafa has to stay, no matter how this season ends. I cannot see any manager taking over at Liverpool and turn us into a title winning side with the money that is available. May be we should start to accept that we are a Top 5 team but not a Top 2 team.

Apart from that: It is about f****** time that we get some luck!

Time to drown my sorrows in alcohol and get drunk.

  5. When you walk through a storm
    Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
    Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

    Walk on through the wind
    Walk on through the rain
Tho’ your dreams be tossed and blown
    Walk on, walk on
    With hope in your heart
    And you’ll never walk alone
    You’ll never walk alone

    Walk on, walk on
    With hope in your heart
    And you’ll never walk alone
    You’ll never walk alone

  6. Amazing how you guys can blame the yanks for that.

Remove the wool from you eyes. RAFA BENITEZ is the one who screwed up today and he should take full resposibility for where we are this season.

Did you see Torres and Benayoun’s reactions to being subbed? They were gobsmacked, as was everyone else who watched the match. Including the Fulham players.

Don’t blame the yanks for the squad either. Rafa is the one who used the resources available to him to bring in dross like Voronin, Babel, Degen, Dossena, Kyghirakos, Lucas, etc.

He wanted numbers instead of quality, and five years later we are still a two man team. (It was Gerrard and Owen when he came in, now it’s Gerrard and Torres.)

He overcomplicates a very simple game. That is what this club was built on. Simple, effective football. Now we have strikers player on the wing, wannabe strikers playing in the hole and two holding midfielders against a very ordinary Eufa cup side.

6 defeats in 7 matches is totally unacceptable.

It’s time to bring in Phil Thompson or King Kenny to get the lads playing for the shirt again.

  7. 1 step forward 2 steps back! after last weeks win over utd the confidance we gained has been wasted,if agger aurelio skertle appear weds then we have to question whether we will ever take the premiership seriously!unless of course we do have a widespread virus running through the squad!if we have we could be in trouble weds if anyone else comes down with it!but i hate to admit it but we are starting to look like a 2 man team, and the owners h&g have got to do something about it they wont of cource so rafa will take the fall for their failings! in my oppinion 2 more quality players bought to add to last seasons squad would of done it.aquilani was a straight swop for alonso! johnson is better than arboloa but was costly we needed a striker badly i suspect david villa was on the radar! and i think he was coming!valencia needed money villa said he would only play in england for liverpool & torres! thank you mr hicks and mr gilettyou didnt buy the club you financed it with revenue income not spent a penny of your own money!they blame the recession! gilett got some 600 milion for the mapleleafs hiks 200 milion for the rangers yet they cant muster 40 mill for a world class striker!so we all need to get behind rafa get behind spirit of shankley and get these 2 clowns out of our club fast, coz they are dragging our great club down!!

  8. Firstly, DO NOT call for Rafa’s head. Remember, he brought us our best league campaign for 20 yrs. There is more going on behind the scenes that we do not know about. This ‘virus’ has had a decimating effect on our squad but the PRO @ LFC is obviously keeping it quiet!

Secondly, the CL is obviously the priorty set by H&G. if we qualify for the knock out stages of the competition, they can ask for £’s for their stakes in our club. If we are knocked out, you can probably reduce the price of LFC by £5om overnight.

If we can avoid playing teams that begin with the letters F.A.C.T.S for the rest of the season, we could still finish in the top 4. Apart from that, it is gonna be a long season!!

  9. for people saying rafa out.
picture tis situation. yanks announce that they have £20 mil for liverpool. (theoretical) would you rather them to invest in new players of pay off rafas contract and sack him. also, in or situation, with high pressure and job uncertanty after every match.
players missing today, due to illness or injury. johnson, kelly, skrtel, agger, gerrard, aquilani, el zhar, ngog.
torres still isnt 100%. fulham are a largely underrated team who are in europe and doing well.
theres gonna be some tough times coming up, especially if we dont win appeals on the red cards and gerrard needs surgery.
this could also be a point of cleansing for the club, as if we finish out f the champions league the americans will sell to the first bid they get as we wont be seen as a profitable business.
also dont forget the club song, the lyrics say it all
When you walk through a storm
    Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
    Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

    Walk on through the wind
    Walk on through the rain
Tho’ your dreams be tossed and blown
    Walk on, walk on
    With hope in your heart
    And you’ll never walk alone
    You’ll never walk alone

    Walk on, walk on
    With hope in your heart
    And you’ll never walk alone
    You’ll never walk alone
