Blessing in disguise or the Last Chance?

Liverpool’s left wing suffered a bad blow on monday night as both Albert Riera and in-form Yossi Benayoun came off limping after suffering injuries to thigh muscles. Insult to injury was added by a frustrating draw. The injury situation at Melwood is as bad as it could possibly get and this morning Rafa revealed that both Riera and Benayoun could be out for upto four weeks.

With both the experienced wingers out, its a huge oppurtunity for Ryan Babel (finally) to show off what he has in his locker. There has been a huge debate since as long as i remember that if given a good first team Run, Babel can surprise a few with his skill and ability. The dutch winger should consider this injury crisis as a blessing in disguise as he would not get a better chance to make his place in Kop hearts. The club is going through its worst run for ages, and if Babel can inspire the team with a few match winning performances, I personally see no reason why he cannot break into the first team permanently.

Having said that, there also has been a long talk over Babel’s possible departure in the upcoming transfer window due to the lack of first team action. I am not being pasimistic but realisticly speaking, if the dutchman fails to impress this time then the tag of being ‘an over-rated failure’ might be justified to an extent as in this situation, the last thing we can afford is below par performances from our make shift players. There is no doubt that Babel is a great future prospect but coming into the team at this difficult time this could be his BEST yet FINAL chance!

C’mon Ryan… YNWA!
