Outside the Shankly Gates I heard a Kopite calling “Tom Hicks you are not welcome here”

I received the following announcement by S.O.S. and it did put a huge smile on my face, at least we did have a victory of sorts yesterday. YNWA to the brave people of Spirit of Shankly.

Spirit of Shankly successfully carried out a protest which was to prevent the owners entering Anfield. The empty seats in the directors box gave the message clearly that Tom and George are not welcome here.

We set out to picket all four entrances of the ground. We are telling them that the fans are the real owners of Liverpool Football Club and that they are not welcome here. We will continue this course of action until they do the right thing and sell up.

During the protest the Police announced to everyone by the Shankly Gates that they were not allowing the owners into the ground due to Health and Safety reasons. Shortly after a Range Rover which contained Tom Hicks was stopped a few hundred yards from the ground by the King Harry pub. A police officer entered the car and the car subsequently turned round and left the proximity of the stadium. Foster Gillett arrived late after kick off to avoid the protests and remained in the ground until late so not to be seen.

We would like to thank all who turned up yesterday to offer their support. Also, we want to remind Tom and George that we will continue to show them that they are not welcome here.

  1. while i hate H&G as much as the next guy, SOS arent doing us any favours. Preventing them from entering anfield was ‘a victory’, but seriously, do you think anyone would want to buy a team at the moment with the current form we’re in, never mind SOS running around making us look ridiculous. If potential buyers see SOS causing this trouble, they won’t want to buy in case they turn out like the yanks. We need the yanks out (they know their not welcome) and we need a potential buyer to believe he is buying a club which won’t be worsening the situation even more.

    Y.N.W.A

  2. i didn’t say that. i don’t mind a little march from here to there, but preventing H&G from entering the stadium? A little bit over the top. A few banners, marches and all that would be fine. I’m hoping they go, cos until they leave, Rafa’s (or whoever) gonna have no money to spend. But, new investors will look at the likes of SOS and think ‘shit, if we do buy this club, and fuck up, that’ll be us’.

  3. and do you think the players (who are shattered of confidence and morale) at the moment aren’t distracted by the constant ‘owner’ talk as well as 20 years, rafa’s job running close to the end, two man team. etc.. the players need us to be their twelfth man during this time. cliche or not, its true. people like SOS are not helping.

PS: Thank you, but i know what the URL for google is.

  4. spelt me name wrong it’s éire not eire. eire doesn’t mean anything. And it’s not a crock of bull. The players need our support and whatever else we can do to help them. If we focus on helping the players and the manager during this bad spell, and concentrate on the owners when we have our confidence and a few wins in the bag, then it’ll make sense. But making a situation MORE of a situation doesn’t make sense.

    just saying

  5. you don’t need an accent key. It’s just ‘ctrl + alt + a/e/i/o/u’.

Anyway, I know you’ll probably go blah blah about how SOS protests before the Manc Wank game and all that, but it doesn’t matter. Everyone NEEDS to show unity at this time. If the players are supported by the fans, and the fans support the manager, that’s one part over. If we can support the team and they get results, then we can give the Wanks another bollocking.

As for yours Leeds comment a while ago, I’m gonna revert to Newcastle: Protests, protests, protests. They still got relegated and still were stuck with Ashley.

  6. There is always so much complaining about the owners, but they are not the ones out there on the field! At some point, can’t we point the finger at the players on the field, who can only muster 1 goal against shitty Hungarian teams and 0 goals against Blackburn…the owners aren’t playing!

    1. They have not provided any money for the last two years, YES THEY ARE THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF OUR PROBLEMS.

We have a much lower wage bill than Chelsea, Arsenal & Man Utd. and that is a FACT.
