Fernando Torres, Liverpools number one

Posted by

Yesterday, against Wigan, he played his 100 match in Liverpools red shirt. His goal average is to compare with those from legends like Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler or Michael Owen. Only his injuries are precluding him on his goal-scoring-way.

Hundred games like hundred suns. And it isn’t a small figur. Yesterday night Fernando Torres achieved this count in Liverpool red shirt and did it in a big way. The Spanish national joined a club of the great Anfield legends.

His goal average is slightly better than the one of the great Kevin Keegan or the standards made by Kenny Dalglish. Fernando also delivers great counters, just like the famous players used to do it in the past. “El numero 9” scored 90 goals in 99 official matches. This makes 0,60 goal in each game which upgrades Michael Owens result: 158 goals in 287 appearances.

Fernando already proved that he is one of the best strikers in the world. And he’s still improving, he hasn’t shown everything yet. This season, because of his injuries, he was only able to play in 15 matches, but nevertheless scored 10 goals. El Nino needs to hit the ball in the net two times more and he’ll break another record: his 50thgoal in the Premier League. Now he has 48 in 68 appearances on his list. Ian Rush needed 84 matches to achieve this; Fowler 88; Dalglish 98, the same as Owen.

The “Red-Ranking”:

1. Fernando Torres: 0,60 goals in each match

Succeeded 60 times in 98 games

2. Michael Owen: 0.53 goals in each match

Succeeded 157 times in 287 games

3. Ian Rush: 0,52 goals in each match

346 goals in 660 matches during 15 years waring the red shirt

4. Robbier Fowler: 0,49 goals in each match

Scored 183 times in 369 games during 11 seasons in Liverpool

5. Kenny Dalglish: 0,33 goals in each match

Scored 172 goals in 515 games during 13 seasons at Anfield

6. Kevin Keegan: 0,30 goals in each match

100 goals in 323 games in his six years in Liverpool.

  1. Great post Amanda that is incredible, will Torres ever beat Ian Rush? I doubt it unfortunately because players do not play as many games as they did 20 years ago. I remember Rushie would even play League Cup games.

    1. Thanks Antoine!
And thank you also for the warm welcom. :) Just like Stevie did welcome Fernando on his first day at Anfield. :D
That’s truth, they used to have more time for the team in the past. Maybe if El Nino will stay a few years more? Seems quite impossible, but who knows …
