What do we have in store for 2010?

First and foremost, I extend my best wishes for the New Year to all fellow Reds supporters and visitors of this website.

All LFC supporters will hope that 2010 may bring a much needed wind of change in the fate of our beloved Club and team.

As Antoine has pointed out in the previous posting, our next match is our first involvement in this season’s FA Cup competition. We will be facing Reading who are on paper within our capabilities, but we all know what Cup-ties are like in England. Rafa, not having much else to aspire to, has committed himself to the importance of this competition. I just hope that from this game on, and until the end of all competitive play, we will always field the best team and do away with rubbish turnover policies that have so many times seen us fail miserably (vide Carling Cup exit). A team like Liverpool does not have quality replacements! What we do have are fresh young emerging players that need to be inserted at the right place and time but if we want to take anything positive out of what so far has been a disappointing season and way below anyone’s expectations (even our adversaries!), we need to take each game as if our lives depended on it.

Going back to the Premier League the arrival of Roberto Mancini on Man City’s bench will make achieving the 4th spot more difficult for us. The Italian will make City much more solid at the back and tactically more disciplined. Not to mention that Spurs are giving it a good run and Aston Villa and Birmingham are waiting in the wings for the big guns to loose points. Furthermore both Mansour (Man City) and Yeung (B’Ham City) will provide funds to bolster their chances for success.

Taking these facts into perspective, things look….bleak. However, Liverpool IS a special Club and perhaps we may still graft something out if we at least show some form of passion and desire. Financially the 4th CL spot is the most important target to achieve, but will not bring any silverware. Not only does the competition provide a substantial income of much needed finances, it automatically gives the Club more TV revenue money from taking 4th spot and many of our top players will not threaten to leave, as most will not want to do without the Champions League limelight.

The news of players coming in and out is rife even before the start of market hostilities. New that players like Dossena, Voronin and Babel may be offloaded has now become old news. Degan too might have been a candidate to leave but Johnson’s injury may change that as Martin Kelly too is still out of contention. Personally, and with no disrespect, I am not much interested in news regarding youngsters coming to the Club, that’s for the future. My concern is who is coming in NOW to bolster the FIRST TEAM. Van Nistelrooy and Heskey have been mentioned over and over again, and the latest news, perhaps the most interesting, regards the possibility to bringing Maxi Rodriguez (Atletico Madrid) to Anfield. Now that is a quality player. It seems that the Club is tabling a loan deal in all three deals. We also have Arda Turan (Galatassaray winger), Milan Jovanovic (Standard Liege) and Victor Moses (QPR) on our radar. We will need cash for any of these last three, so selling is imperative. Now we have to sit (frustrated) and wait to see what happens.

Talking about frustrations…..! Mansour, Abramovich, Yeung and Lerner are making the supporters of the Clubs they own dream. Man Utd are not much better off than us as the Glaziers are ruthless money making machines just like our own Laurel and Hardy (no disrespect to the REAL Laurel and Hardy). The only difference with Man Utd is that they have not stopped winning!

May 2010 reward our unconditional love and support for this Club with the success we all deserve.
