When tragedy hits close to home

Posted by

This post is not footie related but I am sure that we as Liverpool supporters can all relate to tragic events better than most supporters of other clubs.

We all have heard of the devastation in Haiti this week, as you know I live in South Florida and we have a large Haitian community living here.

On Friday as I was leaving work I asked a Haitian co-worker of mine if she had heard from friends and family in Haiti. She was telling me on how she had just managed to speak to her sister in Port-Au-Prince but unfortunately some members of her extended family were still missing. Her sister’s house was completely destroyed however she was glad that she was alive. I saw the pain in her eyes as she described to me the devastation,  I did not know what to say so I just gave her  a hug.

Haiti is one of the poorest (if not the poorest) country in the world, these people barely had anything. Over the last year they have already had their share of natural disasters with Hurricanes, Tropical storms and mudslides. This earthquake has pushed them to the brink.

  1. I really don’t want to get into politics her or foreign policies, but a country like Haiti has been neglected by almost everyone. It’s evident there are not oil, gas or gold reserves there…….!
I will attend mass this morning to shed my weekly sins and pray that these people, suffering from years of corruption and power hungry greedy bastards, to find some reprieve in the hope that this natural onslaught will wake the world from it’s sleep so that Haiti may become a nation with dignity and it’s people all living a decent life.

  2. Tonio Bone, i consider myself athiest, however it is refreshing to see a truly Christian statement of love regarding this whole event, unlike others who stain your faith. YNWA
