A new idea to get LFC back up to the top

Posted by

During a rather boring spell at work today, I was thinking about football again. (if you looked inside my head, you’d see a match going on most of the time). And something dawned on me. Why not try a three legend a month deal. Here’s how it goes. Liverpool has enough legends you could run out. I’d not have them on the pitch longer than a half hour.

Thank about that, Gerrard connects with John Barnes for a goal against Manchester United. Or John Wark and John Aldridge connect on a goal to beat Everton. Or heck you could have Torres and King Kenny play up top.

Ok, in reality, how many of these legends could you get to come out of retirement to play a month a season to get the club back to where they are supposed to be? Their hearts for the club would make them do it in a second. And I’m sure some of them are in good enough shape to play thirty minutes.  And there are players in the EPL who aren’t up to the level of the league (heck most of Pompey isn’t).

Ok, lemme snap myself back in reality. The game has changed a lot since these players last played, and most of them are 40+ and it’s a young man’s sport. But strangely I can see someone like Barnes or King Kenny (my favorite player) doing better than a lot of the players filling their positions in the league. Now, would they be stars like yesteryear? no. But think about it, if they could help return the club back to the league glory that it needs, than they could be double legends.

Well that’s my view, now lets see if it works in my dreams again.

  1. I remember the last time the King played … He totally bedazzled Alan Stubbs to score the last goal of the game …

  2. This is obviously a tongue in cheek comment but I cannot help but think that it’s representative of what Rafa Benitez is up against. Very few Liverpool fans are prepared to look to the future because they are forever stuck in the glorious past!

  3. your being very optimistic, but this will never happen and im kind of disappointed with the post.. the title made me think it was more realistic than you made it to be…

  4. Very perceptive “Rafa Must Stay”. We’re forever stuck with an un-relievable past and it’s certainly not fair. It’s what makes sections of us refuse to see and acknowledge what Lucas DOES offer to the team. Even in real life, how many of us want to be constantly compared to others. Come on! I feel Rafa’s working on a really big long-term project and we need massive truckloads of patience. Look at Man U. SAF actually auditioned at Highbury first, not Old Trafford, where he was turned down for one reason or other. At OT it took him seven years of mediocrity to finally bag his first, an FA Cup at that – not even Istanbul! Time’s needed and stability even more so.

Support for the team (which includes the gaffer) is vitally important RIGHT NOW. Let’s give our all for a team that’s working double overtime in spite of no funds and owners only in name. Siempre es posible. Keep the faith. YN(Ever)WA(Ever)!
