‘Arry buoyed by absence of duo

“I’d be lying if I stood here and said that the absence of Gerrard and Torres won’t matter.”

Those were Harry Redknapp’s thoughts ahead of his team’s encounter against the Reds on Wednesday. He also went on to say:

“But they have a strong squad. I have never been there and had an easy game. It is a difficult place to go.”

I must admit to thinking that Spurs would as usual, ‘fluff their lines’ or so to speak this season. Even when we were playing poorly, and they were soaring up the table I always got the feeling that somehow, the Premier League would not look proper without an underachieving Spurs team. I expected City to be our main rivals with perhaps Villa to challenge us for it, but it seems that those three teams are starting to pull away, even if we are only a few points away.

Spurs midfielder and one-time Liverpool target (supposedly) Niko Krancjar seems confident about it as well:

“Do we believe we can win that game? Yes we do. We believe in our qualities. We have beaten Liverpool once already this season but they are only four points behind us.

“They might be in a bad season, but they are only four points behind us. They have every right to believe they can make it to the Champions League.”

With Spurs rightfully buoyant (albeit with injury problems of their own), they have every right to go into the match with confident moods. Rest assured that they will try to play themselves down as the underdogs, even though everyone neutral will be at least partially expecting a Spurs win.

I wonder how Rafa will try to pick the team up for the match after the Stoke match. But Spurs are above us in the table, and usually when a team comes to Anfield that are above us in the table it is billed as a season-defining encounter. We have had a few of those this season, and usually they have ended poorly. But still, only 4 points eh? A win at Anfield could turn our season around and point it in the right direction…but then again, we’ve all heard that before haven’t we?

    PRICELESS.

I fear for us if Insua starts another premier league game. This boy will cost Rafa his job eventually, he’s a total catastrophe. I believe we are losing games this season because we lost the calming influence of Arbeloa and Aurelio at full back. These guys never left their center backs as exposed as insua and Johnson.
