Respect for reason number two

Posted by

This in a continuation of Sami’s Bundesliga conquest which has started with his first “German goal” on Sunday. After this match the local media can’t stop tocompliment our legend

This goal delates all doubts which the German football world had about Sami’s qualities as a player.

“Actually, I have to thank him, because now I have one assist more”, said his young mate Toni Kroos.

Is there more respect possible? And few minutes later, when Kroos had to numerate three reasons why Leverkusen does play so good this season, he calls Sami as one of them. As the reason number two, just behind the coach Jupp Heynckes and just before the new stability, which is also one of Hyypiä’s credits.

In the beginning there was a lot scepticism. Even Jupp Heynckes, who is a known promoter of young players, wasn’t that much confident about Sami’s signing.

“I’ve always had a lot of respect for him, no doubt about that … But I wouldn’t even imagine that it will work so good … If someone would tell me this before!”, said the coach after the match against Hoffenheim. “He (Sami) knows what he has do to, otherwise he couldn’t bring the achievement which he’s actually bringing”, praises Heynckes.

And what does Sami have to say about this hymns on his person? He stays calm and humble as usual:

“It works awesome for me here. I don’t regret my step for even a second. Hopefully I can keep playing like that”. And as modest as he is he adds: “This goal was a bonus for me but much more important is that we could defend our own goal as good as we did it.”

With his 100 appearances in international matches and as participator of great football events like the Champions League Final in Instanbul in 2005 where he had to face AC Milan with his Liverpool FC, Sami knows what is important:

“If you stop to concentrate for one hundred percent and you start thinking about the title instead, then you’re making a big mistake.”

  1. Sami was my favourite LFC player until finally he went to Leverkusen. I picked him instead of Gerrard, Carra, or Torres. From the start, he always worked hard, being humble, and loyal. Whoever he played with, it was no matter.

Sami. Legend. That’s all I could say.
