Wigan 1 – Liverpool 0

Posted by

Looks like our quest for fourth place ended tonight at the JJB,  a stadium that cost £30 million to build in 1999.

We were poor, very poor tonight and it just baffles me on how a team that finished runners up last season could play like this just a few months later. Most of the players did not show up tonight and yes they deserve the blame together with Rafa. I am still behind them but this kind of performance is unacceptable.

It seems to me that their heads are already in South Africa and all they can think of is the World Cup.

Next up Lille.

  1. Antoine. They call it the DW Stadium now bud. Shameful, ludicrous, adsent, ridiculous performance. All the players, and the manager, should be docked a week’s wages for today’s showing! Shame on you Reds!

  2. Where is the magic? We dont posses (or use) players like diamansy, velencia, arshavin, J Cole. The fans deserve at least one player in the team that we would pay to watch, we have none. Every manager, even Pulis with Tuncay has one player the fans drool over for their flair and strut. I’m tired of being bored. Rafa reminds me of Houllier in that respect. Houlier loved flair and creativity until Ginola broke his heart. We had to suffer as he fell out of love with the beautiful game and introduced us to Michel Ferri, Barmby and Danny Murphy. Rafa seems to have also had his heart broken by his failure to sign a consistent match winning winger and now it seems we are destined for ‘sensible’ wide midfielders for the rest of his tenure.

DON’T GIVE UP RAFA!! PLEASE PERSIST IN YOUR SEARCH FOR QUALITY PACEY WINGERS AS APPOSED TO GRAFTERS. IT’S THE ONLY WAY WE WILL EVER MOVE FORWARD.

  3. i think the Manager shouldnt be blamed as much as the players because he put out the best squad and selection yet the big names players didnt turn up..Torress misfired assuming today happens to be one of his off days,Kuyt was woeful and there was no width in the game all the players could do was pass the ball around agreed thats the game plan but it didnt work out and the Pitch looks disastrous not good enough no free flow of balls..i have already resigned to faith i doubt we finish top four except divine intervention i could remember well last year when we were pushing up for the title we lost the push for the title here at D.W stadium against wigan when we finished the match draw and here we are pushing up for fourth place and today we lost and bottled it..I knew for liverpool to claim the top four finsih will be an uphill battle just the same way it was an uphill battle for liverpool to clinch the premier league title last year..Maybe divine intervention things might work out our way otherwise we should all prepare for life outside champions league next season..food for thought

  4. I work about 60 hours a week in a lab doing tedious, boring work. All day I looked forward to watching this match. I came home and then this happened. They looked like they cared for about the first 10-15 minutes and the last 10 minutes. But even then it wasn’t that good. A part of me wants us to fail at getting into the top four just so things will change around there. I know we want to support Rafa, but it is pretty clear that he has forgotten who plays in what positions, and still somehow hasn’t realized that a 4-2-3-1 is an ineffective formation. He should play a 4-4-2 with Maxi, Gerrard, Masch, and Benayoun in the middle with Torres and Kuyt up front. This seems so obvious to me and I haven’t played on a pitch since I was 8. I just don’t know if he is the man for the job anymore. Having said this, the players were still crap.

  5. We don’t deserve 4th place after being outplayed by Wigan. Was a shambles last night! We can make all the excuses in the world for Gerrard but he really needs to up his game. We seem to all be saying he’s not fully fit, if thats the case he shouldn’t be taking place in the centre of the field. You can see it with the players there is no drive anymore, everyone just looks bored.

It was like watching sunday league last night just ball watching.

  6. The way we played last night was a disgrace to the history of LFC – no passion and definitely no clue. I have no real issue with the way we started the game, but I do have a big problem with Rafa sticking with the same formation at the beginning of the second half. He had 45mins to save our season and at least make the race for fourth position interesting. But no, he stuck with the same line up – one that was clearly out of sorts with one another.

I have been a massive supporter of Rafa for as long as I can remember, but enough is enough – he has to go and the whole club needs to take a good long look at itself. The way we are going we’ll be lucky to qualify for the Europa League next season – and to be honest I don’t think we even deserve that.

Rafa, however, should not shoulder all of the blame. The players were less than useful last night – Stevie was not at the races, Dirk had his worst game of the season and Torres seemed more intent on having a go at the defenders / ref. This is not the Liverpool way – on paper we had the players capable of winning the game but instead we kissed goodbye the any hopes of making next seasons Champions League – simply we were pathetic – believe me this is not something I ever thought I would say about my club.

  7. I don’t see how people are still bangin on about Rafa! He put out a perfectly capable squad of smashing those pie eating morons last night. And guess what….the players hold all responsibitly with this one.

Gerrard looks bored all the time now, funny how Masch (a player quite happy to move a little while ago) is one of the few players showing character and strength! Utterly dissapointing.

The days of old are well and truely gone, one comforting fact we can take from all this is give up the FA cup and carling next year and we’ll only have to worry about our league performances. I think next year could be a turning point for us if Rafa was to take chances on our youth team. I personally don’t care if we miss out on CL for the next couple of years if I can see signs on the team building in a simular vien to what Arsenal are doing now. Yes they might be slightly off the pace this year, but they are only going to come back stronger next year, and so are other clubs, and we have nothing to give than we have already given.

Sad times for the club and fans, but lets get our heads out of the history books and start looking towards the future
