Giving up our pride for some chance of glory

Posted by

This season could prove to be a very historic one with most of us cringing to think that Manchester United (for the first time in their history) can become the club to with the most league titles, a total of 19. How can we allow this happen?

Unfortunately we really can not stop it, we hope that Chelsea or Arsenal can grab the title instead however the truth of the matter is that we might be the ones to gift wrap the title for United.

With five games to go our only hope to qualify for Champions League football is to win all of them including the Anfield clash against Chelsea next month. As the league table stands today Chelsea are only 2 points ahead of United, if we draw Chelsea at Anfield then it might be enough for United to grab the title. Of course this depends on United winning their last five games and improve their goal average by 4 goals over the course of those games. However if we beat Chelsea then United with have a more clear shot at the title.

And it does get worse for us, Manchester City play United on April 17th and with City being our biggest rival for the 4th spot chase we will have to hope that United beat their city rivals. Does this mean we have to support Manchester United on April 17th? Oh Boy, that is going to be a very bitter pill to swallow.

I love Liverpool more than I hate Manchester United.

  1. Yeah, this is hard. But right now it’s about Liverpool, not Man Utd.

This was on Twitter sent from a Utd supporter to a LFC Supporter:

“If you beat Chelsea for us, we’ll beat City for you”

    haha (-:

  2. Antoine. Before we play Chelsea, United will play Man City and Spurs, so there is a good possibility that if they drop point here the title may even be already decided.
As I see it, and the fixtures our contenders for 4th place are faced with, I will still feel that we can draw with Chelsea if we win the other 4 games. That would bring us to 68 points and possibly 4th spot. At the stage of proceedings, I say let’s take it one game at a time!

  3. we won’t go to the champions league fact!!!!!just hope chelsea or arsenal win the title!!!!don’t really want to put up with man u fans if they overtake us!!!!

  4. Firstly, I would like to say this is a GREAT post Antoine, exactly what were all about the club this is why every post on this page is full of passion! no matter how much we HATE manchester united and they could do us a favour, bitter sweet eh?…. made me think a lot about everything going on with the club at the moment! But, either way we have some of our pride dented, denied something that should always have, or losing our title as the club with the most league titles in English football! Definately an extremely hard one. this has really got me thinking

  5. I dont care about them all I care about is us. Try and win every game whatever and if they win the title they win the title. Records are made to be broken lets face it weve broken enough in our time. Even if fourth spot is not available to us by the chelsea game and beating chelsea was to give them the title I would want to beat chelsea.
By the way, stick your mortgage on us winning the title 2011. We wont have another season like this next season and we always fight harder when we are in a corner.

  6. “I love Liverpool more than I hate Manchester United”, said so I don’t care if M. Utd get their 19th PL tittle because I want to see Liverpool on CL next year. So we must win Chelsea’s match for 3 reasons: we’re playing at home, we need those 3 points and they took we off CL 2 years in a row!
And if I have to cheer for United against City to secure Liverpool’s 4th I’ll do so and besides cheering for the enemy our fate is on Spurs’ hands.
And let’s not forget that United are quite in the same situation: will they risk their tittle and lose to City so we will get far from 4th or will they win it and give us a chance? They’ll try to win every game (and they play Spurs) so I think that we can count with their help for 4th but we also must win every game now and don’t throw away opportunies like we did on Sunday – yeah, we could’ve closed the gap to Spurs.

  7. Great post.
I burned my head thinking about it.
But i came up with a fact.

IT’S NOT THE NUMBER OF TROPHYS THAT MADE ME LOVE LIVERPOOL.
IT WAS THE GREAT PLAYERS THAT PLAYED HERE.
    THE FANS.
    THE FANTASTIC ATMOSPHERE AT ANFIELD.
    ANYWAY.. THE LIVERPOOL WAY.

Lets finish the league fighting till the end.

    greetings from chile

  8. We are Liverpool, and we are proud of everything our club accomplishes, big or small.

Go for every win we can, whether 4th is attainable or not. I don’t mind what Man Utd do. If they win #19, it will be mostly because they’ve earned it. They’ve owned the Premier League since its inception, so more power to them. And it will give us something to shoot for next year and on. Catch up to Man Utd and then pass them.

As for us for now, celebrate every goal, every point, every win, and commiserate with the team when we don’t achieve.

We are Liverpool and we never walk alone.
