Many believe that gloating over Manchester United’s Champions League elimination is not the Liverpool Way, this is true however reminding the world about our proud history is.
We have officially outlasted Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United in Europe this year, yes we could be eliminated tonight but this very moment they are out of Europe and we are in, and that is a FACT.
What really ticks me off is that when we won the Champions Cup in 2005 and when we were finalists in 2007 they (all those poor lost souls who do not support Liverpool) downplayed our achievement and taunted us on the fact that we had not won the League in many years. Winning the Champions League five times is not an easy feat, ask Roman who has spent millions on Chelsea with the hope of lifting the Cup. Manchester City have also spent millions and a big achievement for them would be to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history.
We did not make it past the group stage this year, suddenly the Champions League became a big deal again and they taunted us for playing Thursday night football. “You are playing in the Mickey Mouse cup” they claimed, I wonder how many of them would rather be watching their respective teams play tonight then not playing at all?
And yes we are having a horrible season, but even in our darkest hours we are able to lift our heads up high and sing at the top of our voice “In Istanbul we won it five times“.
