A Kwality Game

As the league football season is coming to an end, the Reds start playing better and better. Yesterday’s 3:0 home victory against West Ham was a sweet one, wasn’t it? I just can’t stop wondering why we couldn’t play like this for the whole, or at least for the most part, of the season?

After the see-saw debate about Liverpool’s sale and questions about new owners, investors etc, and the bad news that Torres will be out for the rest of the season; it was a night that sweetened all the talks, rumours and headlines.

As for Torres, it’s better for him to undergo the surgery now, than get it worse and worse. So let’s face it: this surgery was just a matter of time. Unfortunately, there’s the World Cup this year … That’s life.

West Ham is known for their dirty play but yesterday … it was utterly poor. Yep. The Reds were dominating the pitch from the first minute in an very impressive way. Chance after chance! Countless chances to score but unfortunately, only three of them ended in the net. West Ham tried to take over the control, but Liverpool was just to good for them.

As Rafa said: “It was comfortable in the end,” Benítez said. “We were doing well. West Ham started by pushing forward but as soon as we got the first goal it was easier and we had more chances. We scored the second and the third goal killed the game. We could have had more, but we have another game in a few days and a long journey ahead.”

True. There could have been more goals, but hey! We got three, let’s be happy about that. Let’s be glad about Yossi’s creativity (his twisting and turning and dancing with the ball can be awesome to watch); Glen’s strong performance and assists, Stevie’s “Zidane Dance” with the ball; Kyriakos’ goal and –of course– Ngog’s development to a first class striker (everyone has to agree, no?).

“When you play instead of Fernando, people always talk,” Benítez said. “But I have confidence in David and he can score goals, although it depends if the team plays well. Maybe some of the pressure is off him because of the goal”, said Rafa and I agree. There’s nothing to add.

Let’s just be happy about those facts and hope that the Europe League match against Atletico in two days will be a kwality one as well.

Unfortunately for us, the team the history repeats herself: Liverpool once against is going to face Atletico Madrid but, once again, without the injured Fernando Torres. Once again the Spaniard won’t be able to play versus his former club. Oh, what a match would it be: for him, for the teams, for the fans! At least Maxi will play: that’s one lad happy.

But we won’t let sad thoughts get us down, will we? Not today. The mornings after such a kwality match (and victory) always are lovely. I’m enjoying this “morning after” at work. Yeah, I know … But, I took some Greek yoghurt with me. To sweeten the daily work. Kali orexi, Sotirios!

  1. Oh, sorry. My mistake. No Spanisch lad in the squad will be happy then. Next week at Anfield perhaps.

  2. Personally didn’t think we played very well all game just little bursts, but glad the result came out of it the way it did. Great result in the end ad hopefully add some confidence to a few players! With Maxi cup tied hopefully we can let Lucas have some more free space. But hopefully we can get a decent result from Thursday
