PREVIEW: Today’s Unique Liverpool Jersey

Thanks to Barry Tanner who submitted this photo of the jersey that the Reds are going to be wearing against Chelsea today.

The sponsor is Carlsberg, yes that is Carlsberg in Chinese and it is part of a marketing promotion that Danish brewery is having to promote it’s brand in China.

This will be the last time that Liverpool will be wearing the Carlsberg logo at Anfield as the sponsorship ends next weekend and Standard Chartered will become our new shirt sponsor next season. The decision for Liverpool F.C. to change sponsorship was mostly due to a more lucrative financial offer by Standard Chartered. The ban on alcohol advertising in sports that is already in effect in certain European Union countries also contributed. Another factor was the inability to sell the shirts in countries which ban alcohol. Many Liverpool supporters were also upset that Carlsberg were sponsoring the Leppings Lane Stand of the Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield which is the very same stand where ninety-six Liverpool supporters lost their lives in 1989.

However we really should say thank you to Carlsberg for their sponsorship over the last seventeenth years, we are going to miss having Carlsberg down the front of our shirts.

YNWA Carlsberg
Probably the best football sponsor ever
