In Roy We Trust

Roy Hodgson has been named the 18th manager of Liverpool F.C. today, many Reds like me probably have mixed emotions about the whole thing.

I personally did not agree with this appointment and felt that Kenny Dalglish would have been a better choice, however now that Roy is our gaffer and we must fully support him. Hodgson has a mammoth task as he takes over the reins at Liverpool, his first role will be to prevent our world class players such as Stevie and Nando from leaving.  He will however have to sell some players to raise money for transfers with Yossi Benayoun looking likely to be the first player to exit.

It has also been announced that the new Gaffer has been given a three year contract which does raise some questions when you consider that L.F.C. should have new owners soon. Do Hicks and Gillett intend to stay for another three years or are the potential new owners in the loop on this? To add to the confusion Broughton said that there were no bids yet, so what is going on?

The other big question everyone is asking is  “who will be Roy’s first signing?”.  Brede Hangeland is the first player to be linked, not sure if Fulham will allow their former gaffer to raid their bootroom. I know that Roy likes to scout on this side of the pond so I will not be surprised to see an American player or two coming over to Anfield.

Rafa left a pretty decent starting XI which can challenge for the title as long as we do not have another season plagued with injuries. This should give Roy Hodgson an opportunity to become the first English manager to win an E.P.L. title.

Y.N.W.A. Roy,

Welcome to Anfield
